Safety
- Anti-jump: if the load breaks away, the unit stays in position
- Anti-drop: in the event of a sudden pressure loss, the unit stays in position
- Anti-drift: in the event of a sudden pressure loss, the rotary axes are braked
- Pressure relief safety valve
The internal brakes of the main rotary axis and the arm engage mechanically when there is no pressure. The pneumatic system lets the operator release them so the unit can be moved easily and simply.
If required, the brakes can also be closed pneumatically during operation, which gives a stronger braking effect.
If the load is too heavy: it descends slowly to the lower position. Lifting the load is not possible.

Various operating modes available
Automatic balancing control with an integrated scale (optionally available in the gripper):
When the scale is switched on it detects the weight immediately as the load is picked up and sets the supporting force automatically. The scale can be switched on and off at the press of a button.
Constant balancing control, manual: if the same load is always moved, the corresponding weight can be set with a valve. Weight compensation is engaged at the press of a button after gripping.
Variable balancing control, manual: if individual parts of differing weights are picked up, weight compensation can also be set manually each time the load is picked up.
The MANTIS parallel-arm manipulator is used when:
- torques occur in the load application
- the load has to be picked up off-centre
- no torque may occur at the load attachment point
- the operation has to be carried out inside a machine window and cannot be reached from above
